What is Cursillo?

Cursillo is a movement within the Episcopal Church designed to deepen faith and equip Christians to be effective leaders in their communities. The word Cursillo means “a short course,” reflecting its origins as a three-day retreat focused on spiritual growth, leadership, and discipleship. Participants experience a weekend of prayer, worship, and teachings that inspire a renewed commitment to living out their faith in everyday life.

But Cursillo is more than just a weekend—it’s a lifelong journey. After the retreat, participants continue their faith walk through 4th Day activities, small group gatherings, and Ultreyas, which provide ongoing support, encouragement, and fellowship.

Whether you are new to Cursillo or looking to reconnect, we invite you to explore this transformative experience and become part of a vibrant community dedicated to sharing Christ’s love in the world.

Attending Cursillo

Cursillo is open to all adult Episcopalians—men and women, married or single, lay or clergy—who seek a deeper connection with their faith and community. Husbands and wives are strongly encouraged to attend the same Cursillo weekend to share in this transformative experience together.

If you are interested in attending, we invite you to speak with your priest, rector, or Cursillo representative at your church to learn more about this journey of faith, renewal, and fellowship.

What Is Expected of Participants?

As a participant in a Cursillo weekend, you are invited to embrace the experience with an open heart and a willing spirit. You are encouraged to:

  • Be open and responsive to what you experience, sharing your thoughts and feelings while also listening to others with grace and respect.

  • Reflect on your faith journey, considering where you are and how you can continue to grow in your Christian life.

  • Rest in the assurance that you are accepted exactly as you are—there is no pressure to respond in any specific way.

  • Come with curiosity and a desire for spiritual renewal, dedicating this weekend fully to Christ and the work He may be doing in your life.

If you feel called to attend, we encourage you to speak with your priest, rector, or Cursillo representative to learn more.
